What is on the GTA Vice City cover: every panel explained

Design · Updated 21 July 2026 · About 6 min read

Vice City is the most designed box art of the five. Art deco blocks stand behind a helicopter top left, a man in sunglasses fronts a house down the centre, a motorcycle takes the top right. A woman with a martini and a man in a yellow shirt run down the left, a speedboat takes the bottom corner and a burning car the bottom middle. On the right a palm leans over the pink hotel with a lambo below it, and a man in a white suit closes it out. It is also the only Grand Theft Auto cover built on real diagonals.

Panels
The printed cover shows ten. This grid merges the hotel and the lambo to land on nine.
Steepest divider
The line above the burning car, 68 pixels of rise across 311, roughly 12 degrees.
Gutters
15 base pixels, inside a 34 pixel border. The heaviest framing of the five.
Centre panel
Nine corners, running from the top edge to nearly three quarters of the height.

What is in each panel?

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
The Vice City grid, drawn from the same polygon coordinates the cover maker renders. Panel 2 is the tall nine cornered centre column the wordmark sits across.
  1. 1. Helicopter and art deco blocks, top left.
  2. 2. Man in sunglasses in front of a house, the centre column.
  3. 3. Motorcycle, top right.
  4. 4. Woman with a martini.
  5. 5. Man in a yellow shirt.
  6. 6. Speedboat, bottom left corner.
  7. 7. Burning car, bottom middle.
  8. 8. Palm, pink hotel and lambo, merged into one tile.
  9. 9. Man in a white suit, bottom right.

Why does this grid have nine panels when the cover shows ten?

Because the pink hotel and the lambo below it share one tile here. On the printed cover they are two separate panels, which would make ten. Merging them lands this grid on nine like the other four, and it is the one place on the site where the trace deliberately departs from the print rather than following it.

How steep are the Vice City diagonals?

Elsewhere in the series the tilt is drift, a couple of degrees that stop a grid looking mechanical. Here it is intent. The line above the burning car climbs 68 pixels across a run of 311, roughly 12 degrees, and the one over the speedboat matches it. Nothing on GTA V, GTA IV or San Andreas comes close to that.

The column dividers do not run straight either, and this is the detail rebuilt versions usually miss. The left one sits at x 277 beside the helicopter, then jumps 27 pixels left to 250 below it, so the column steps rather than leans. Treating that step as one straight line is what made an earlier version of this grid drift out of register with the box art.

What is the centre panel?

Panel 2, the man in sunglasses in front of the house, and it is the tall one: nine corners running from the top edge down to nearly three quarters of the height, with the wordmark across it. Its right edge slides inward as it descends, from x 595 at the top to 573 where it meets the burning car. That makes it the panel most likely to trim a subject you thought was safely inside it.

Why does the Vice City cover feel heavier than the others?

Gutters of 15 base pixels inside a 34 pixel border, measured off the box art. That is the heaviest framing of the five, roughly half again the 22 pixel border on GTA VI and six pixels more than the 28 on San Andreas. Combined with the diagonals it is what makes the cover read as architecture rather than as a photo wall, and it is also why quiet images disappear here: a 34 pixel border swallows anything low in contrast.

How do you make your own Vice City cover?

Open the Vice City cover maker, click each panel to drop in a photo, drag and zoom inside it to frame the subject, set the Inner and Outer colours, then download. It exports at 1666 by 1920 pixels as PNG, JPEG or WebP, free, with no watermark and no account, and every photo is drawn in your own browser rather than uploaded.

GTA Vice City cover FAQ

What is on the GTA Vice City cover?

Art deco blocks stand behind a helicopter top left, a man in sunglasses fronts a house down the centre, a motorcycle takes the top right. A woman with a martini and a man in a yellow shirt run down the left, a speedboat takes the bottom corner and a burning car the bottom middle. On the right a palm leans over the pink hotel with a lambo below it, and a man in a white suit closes it out.

How many panels are on the Vice City cover?

The printed cover shows ten. This grid lands on nine like the other four, because the pink hotel and the lambo share one tile here.

Are the Vice City dividers really diagonal?

Yes, and it is the only Grand Theft Auto cover where the tilt is intent rather than drift. The line above the burning car climbs 68 pixels across 311, roughly 12 degrees, and the one over the speedboat matches it.

Why does the left column on the Vice City cover step?

Because the divider does not run straight. It sits at x 277 beside the helicopter, then jumps 27 pixels left to 250 below it, so the column steps rather than leans. Straightening that step is what made an earlier version of this grid drift.

How heavy is the Vice City frame?

Gutters of 15 base pixels inside a 34 pixel border, the heaviest framing of the five covers, and that weight is what makes the cover read as art deco.

What resolution does a Vice City cover export at?

1666 by 1920 pixels, twice the 833 by 960 base canvas, as PNG, JPEG or WebP, free and with no watermark.
