About this project

Every Grand Theft Auto cover since Vice City uses the same idea: a grid of small illustrated panels, a border, and the wordmark laid over the top. This site rebuilds that grid for 5 games and lets you drop your own photos into the panels, so the output is a cover in the same layout as the printed one but made of your pictures.

The tool is deliberately narrow. There is no account to make, no project to save, no watermark to pay to remove and no upsell at the end. You open a game, fill the tiles, adjust the framing, and download a PNG. That is the whole product.

It works on a phone as well as a desktop, which matters more than it sounds: most people who want to make one of these are doing it from the camera roll they already have in their pocket.

There is no server side image processing on this site, because there is no image on any server. When you add a photo, your browser reads the file locally and draws it onto a canvas element in the page. When you press download, your browser builds the finished cover from that canvas and saves it straight to your device.

That is a design decision, not an accident. Photos of your family, your friends or your holiday have no business sitting in someone else's storage bucket just so you can make a joke cover out of them. Keeping the work on your device means we could not look at your pictures even if we wanted to, and it means the editor keeps working if the server ever goes down. The site is built and maintained by Daniel Frengl, an independent web developer working from the Czech Republic. It started as a weekend experiment in tracing the GTA VI cover grid accurately enough that a photo dropped into it would look like it belonged there, and it grew into the five cover makers now on the site.

There is no company behind it, no team and no investor. Editorial decisions, the code, the writing on the blog and the replies to your email are all the same person. If something on the site is wrong, there is exactly one person to tell, and you can reach him at hello@gtacover.com or through the contact page.

The cover makers are free and there is no paid tier, so the hosting is covered by advertising shown on the pages, plus voluntary tips through Ko-fi.

Ads are kept out of the editor canvas itself and out of the download flow. We do not put an ad between you and the file you came here to make, and nothing on the site is gated behind watching one. Advertising cookies and your options for turning personalised ads off are covered in the privacy policy.

Nothing on this site is sold, and no personal data is sold either, mostly because none is collected in the first place.

GTA Cover Maker is an unofficial, fan made project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or connected to Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive in any way. Grand Theft Auto, GTA and all related names, logos and marks are the trademarks of their respective owners, and they are referenced here only to describe which cover layout each tool recreates.

The covers you make are your own creations. Please use only images you own or otherwise have the right to use, and treat the result as fan art rather than as an official Rockstar product. The terms of use spell this out.
