Reading the GTA V cover
Sunshine, money, everybody performing
GTA V is Rockstar's Los Angeles at its most satirical, and the cover is the joke in miniature: everyone in it is playing to a lens. The panel that ended up on a million thumbnails is the bikini selfie in the top row, phone up, peace sign out. The rest carries the same gag from different angles, the rottweiler mid bark, the balaclava and the rifle held like a prop, traffic, aircraft, beach.
One flat noon light runs through all of it, which makes this the least forgiving grid here for a mixed set. Nine photos shot at nine different times of day will not settle no matter how well each is cropped.
Rectangles, but not quite
The V grid looks square and is not. Each panel is pulled off axis, by up to about eight degrees, enough to stop the collage reading as a spreadsheet without announcing itself. Eight tiles are simple quads. The ninth has six corners, wrapping the middle right of the cover, and the wordmark sits over it.
The gutters here are not painted on. They are the gaps left between the traced outlines, they run between 20 and 30 base px, and they are deliberately uneven, because the real cover's are. That also changes the colour controls: with no stroke and no border to draw, Inner repaints every gutter and the 17 to 21 px margin at once, while Outer has nothing to touch.

Crop tighter than feels right
Near rectangular panels give a small subject nowhere to hide. Fill each tile edge to edge and let the wide gutters do the separating.
Keep the six sided tile simple
It is the widest panel and the wordmark lands across it. A busy photo there fights the logo, a clean one holds it up.
