The strictest grid of the five
Niko's rectangle
GTA IV is a first year in a city that does not want you, and the cover refuses to sell anything. Niko holds the tall centre column, 618 px of a 960 px canvas, standing rather than posing. Around him: a helicopter top left with a woman beneath it, a motorcycle top right, a sniper down the right side, a man with a pistol filling the left, a cable car under Niko, a police stop across the bottom and a man in glasses in the corner. Overcast light, no saturation, nobody smiling.
That centre column is worth noticing twice: it is the only panel in any of these five grids with four true right angles. Everything else here, in every game, is a trapezoid or worse.
Vertical means vertical here
IV is also the only grid where all nine panels are plain four cornered quads, and the only one whose vertical edges are exactly vertical: each holds a single x value top to bottom. All the movement is in the horizontals, which tilt by as much as 7 degrees while others sit dead flat. Reading those slants as straight bands is what made an earlier version of this grid drift.
The gutters run 8 to 19 px and are mostly 12, the tightest set on the site, and like GTA V they are gaps rather than a stroke, so the Inner colour repaints both the gutters and the outer margin while Outer sits idle.

Stand somebody in the centre column
The tall panel is nearly two thirds of the height. A head and shoulders portrait leaves it half empty. A full length figure fills it the way Niko does.
Tight gutters punish sameness
At 12 px the lines barely separate anything. Two neighbouring photos of similar tone will bleed together, so alternate light and dark across the grid.
Put horizons on the slants
Only the horizontal dividers tilt. A skyline or a rooftop near one of them looks deliberate. A face in the same spot just looks badly cropped.
